The Hebrew Bible: The Blind Man And The Lame

By Lauren Cho

*Definition of “lame”: unable to walk

A blind man walked upon a road

Whereupon he met a lame man sitting on the side.

The blind man knew that his trip would be slowed

If he could not see the road ahead with his eyes.

The blind man therefore asked the lame,

Could you guide me along this trail?

The lame man responded, Alas, my frame,

To guide you along, is too weak and frail.

I am but a lame man, unable to walk.

The blind man cried, Oh, what destiny!

You can see, but cannot walk.

I can walk, but cannot see!

Then the blind man had a thought,

What if I carried you on my back

So that you would not be distraught

As you guided me along this track?

I will become your hands and feet

And in return, you can become my eyes.

Together, we shall traverse this street

And help each other when hardships arise.

The lame man wholeheartedly agreed, saying,

A wise decision! So we shall go.

Thus, the two men went, displaying

A wonderful alliance to overcome their woes.

When we fixate on our weakness,

We will never be able to continue down our roads.

But when we focus on our strengths,

Together and stronger, we can all go.
