The volume of clothing Americans throw away each year has doubled in the last 20 years, from 7 million to 14 million tons. Textiles can take up to 200+ years to decompose in landfills.

According to the World Resources Institute, it takes 2,700 liters of water to make one cotton shirt. And when consumers throw away clothing in the garbage, not only does it waste money and resources, but it can take 200+ years for the materials to decompose in a landfill.

Kristen tried to paint with denim. Her artwork evolved and built on the sustainability idea, portraying a landscape made of recycled denim.
