Why can’t they see, do they not look?
It’s not just COVID, that’s the hook.
I hope this new normal has shed some light
It should rattle us all with such a fright.
The numbers and places do not lie
Our most vulnerable continue to die.
The pandemic is real we all can see
But there is a much greater disease -- Come take a look and you’ll see
Shelter at home… when we have no space
We are going to starve at this pace.
Do I try to work and risk those I love?
There’s no bread coming from above.
Health care for all is simply not there.
But a lot of people in this world are still somehow, unaware.
Access to care must be available to all
It's about time for us to heed the call.
This virus affects everyone’s town
Much harder hit if you are Black or Brown
New York, Detroit, and even South Bend,
This cycle of disparity seems to never end
I don´t know all the answers, i´ll give you that
But clearly, somethings wrong when 38 million people are in poverty , and that’s a fact
Why must it be a virus that wakes us up,
He's not just a guy holding a tin cup.
Poverty is real and this pandemic showed us pain
Why can't we solve it? .. It’s just insane.
Let's band together as Father Hesburgh taught
Serving the poor and abandoned should be our first thought.
